Cosplay at Saint Yves

On January 28th, I attended the D.C. Cosplay Photo Shoots ’ meetup at Saint Yves in North West D.C.  Saint Yves is a D.C. nightclub and lounge with art deco decor with a bit of a modern twist.  We were able to use the space in the early afternoon before it opened for business for the night.  For this event I used: Canon 80D 1 Speed light Trigger Light stand 18-200mm lens Extra small square softbox Black mist filter The Venue: The venue had several options for shooting locations, but could be cramped due to a combination of size, people, and equipment.  The overall styling of the space was art deco, with lots of gold, brass, and marble. It had several open booth areas harkening back to high end  clubs of the 1920’s in New York and Chicago.  This space was best for luxurious cosplays, those styled for the 1920s, or the high end nightclub looks. Would I shoot here again, yes and possibly bring an assistant to reduce issues with placing lighting.  Though...

Cosplay in Studio

On January 21st, I did a “valentines” cosplay session with Eowinth cosplay and Kei  as Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe respectively from “ Scum Villain Self Saving System ”.  This was an interesting little studio session that covered some romance, a little spice, and definitely some silly.   For this session I used: Photography Equipment Canon 80D Transmitter/Trigger 2 strobes 2 c-stands 1 Backdrop stands Savage Red Seamless Paper Sandbags 72’ Umbrella with sock Rectangular Umbrella J-brackets Backdrop bar Props/Miscellaneous Posing box Red and black fabric Flowers Valentines Cookies   The set up I couldn’t have the set 100-percent complete for this session, like I normally would because the cosplayers were bringing the props, flowers, and fabric, so I set up as much as I could.  I started by putting up the red seamless as a base. Remember when hanging the seamless you want the paper to come from over the top of the roll so it curls down instead of up whe...

Purple Robe

On January 21st, I did a fashion test session with the lovely Tiffany ,  for Book a Look: DMV Virginia Dress Rentals . I was shooting a sheer lilac purple ruffled robe, similar to what you would see the  femme fatale would wear in old film noir films.  For the first part of the shoot I went noir style lighting, keeping it low key and mysterious building up that mystic of an heiress on her third husband. Then because this type of robe seems to always be used in maternity and boudoir,  we went the fashion direction to show its versatility and escape the standard styling box.  For this session I used: Photography Equipment Canon 80D Transmitter/Trigger 2 strobes 2 c-stands 1 Backdrop stands Savage Focus Grey Seamless Paper Sandbags 72’ Umbrella with sock Bell reflector Grids Barn doors Props/Miscellaneous Leather chair End table Decanter set The set up For this session I wanted to start with the femme fatale and film noir look, glamorous yet dangerous. ...
